fleeting hair - turban joy

The hair stylist in me decided to spend saturday doing her own hair. Its simple really and i feel much better doing it myself anyway. I used Revlon shampoo and conditioner and then treated with T.tree. You can actually feel the texture soften as you massage it into the hair. T tree does a good job anti frizzing and softening the hair. The results were amazing in fact ive been on a looking good high all day because of my hair

The turban is back.......

I'm normally a headscarf girl and a while back i started experimenting with the revived turban inspired dos and i must say i love it. I think the trick is to just to play around with scarves of different patterns and colors. The shape does not even have to be defined or crammed, be creative and give your turban a personal touch.

Nelson Mandela is not dead

This one is a quickie. Twitter has this buzz going on about Nelson Mandela being dead. He is not. He is in hospital and sick but not dead. Lets all hope and pray he gets better soon. He reminds me that there is hope and that African leaders have the ability to be well hearted. Can you believe in Uganda MPs were given public bribes of about10,000 usds and while some of them returned the money, others are shamelessly enjoying it. African governments are becoming more corrupt by the minute. Even though i do not like whats going on in Tunisia and Egypt , i am glad that young people are standing up for what they want and kicking out these dictators..like i said its a quickie so enjoy your weekend people. And if you're in the Uganda area and meet an MP, tell him to return the money.

because its my birthday

Even though i know i was somewhat expected to show face on my desk go to work i decided not to because its a public holiday(liberation day, long story) and most importantly my birthday.In true lazy chic fashion I spent the morning in bed watching movies and surfing around, sounds boring but i promise it was glorious to stay in bed and chill, a proper day off. Some of my bestest friends in the world Ginni,Shara and Gracie decided to come over with a good few litres of ice cream and so the  task was on. we ate, ate and ate some more till there was none left.

Then because of lack of things to do syndrome we decided to tune our hair so i cut off a bit of my hair while gini did the B.C(big chop).. Ive been toying with the idea of cutting off my hair completely for a while now and so ive decided to do it in phases. The idea is not scary and appauling ( as seen on the drama queens on americas next top model)  for me.Ive had a bald head, short hair, kinky , dreadlocks, coloured, long, braided etc. My hair has a life of its own so cutting it is not a big deal as biology tells me it will grow back anyway.

 Another notable grand thing happened today.i saw the number 50 on my followers tab. I wanna thank all my lovely followers you guys are the bestest pips in the whole world( sniff sniff coz im about to cry).

Also i was going through old photos when i noticed how rowdy i was as a kid.like i said last time i was always smiling the most in the pics.well in this one i was the loudest kid.can you spot me?

           

Did i say i used to model,yep and this is one of my fave jobs i did for a jewellery designer a few years ago. The comparison of me in the two photos just shows me how much ive aged.Im now a big ass tax paying adult. Not everything about being grown up is great, life is oh so simple when you're a child.I guess we should enjoy our youth coz im sure when im forty i might wish for this time again. Enjoy your Thursday people.

1. I am the first born of four siblings.. That gives me alot of responsibilty that i love but it also puts an unwanted amount of pressure on me. I have to test the waters for everything in my family and many a time its not that pleasant.

2. I weigh 60 kgs .plus one on a bad day.

3. I am a born again Christian

4. I only got a full muth of teeth when i was 8 or so. i was the girl wothout two front teeth for a long time but i was always the smiliest on pics.

5. I think of myself as different and inded i am. in style atleast and it always shows in my dress especially on the weekend when i do not have to look professional. 

6. I think i would make a great future ban ki moon . I am pasionate about work related to social development

7. Ive been in love with a great guy for a while now.

One To Watch- Virginia Afrika Abimanya

This week i am doing the first feature of the much anticipated ( at least by me)One To Watch series .In this series i will bring you inspiring young people from around the world that i think you guys should watch out for . These are young people chasing their dreams, trying to make in business, careers and basically life. We all need a little inspiration from time to time and this will be my way of bringing it to you.

Our very first OTW is the lovely Ginny from Uganda.

How would you describe yourself?

Adventurous, creative,loving and lovable,simple girl who loves God.

What do you do?

I design and make jewellery under the label ZEKI jewelery. I have been doing this for almost a year now.

Did you always know you want to do this?

No i did not My dream careers changed as i grew up. At first I always wanted to be an air hostess ,then a gynecologist, then an antiques shop owner and then some how i ended up doing this. I could say this came to me but i guess i always enjoyed creating things from scrap as a child. While shopping one day i saw a cute phone accessory and i thought to myself i could make that and even better and so with a challenge in mind i shopped around for material , i made a few of those and started selling them. I advanced from that to jewelery and that was the beginning.

Who is your ideal client?

Any person who loves unique things, is not afraid to be stylish and express their taste through jewellery. I get orders from individuals, young and old professionals and have also made jewelery for an African stage production. I design Jewelery for particular occasions and to suit individual style.

What is your style and does that reflect in your work?

My style is laid back and unique but also vintage and classic and allot of that goes into my work but i also like to play around with different things. Materials that would not ordinarily be used for adornment, paper clips, safety pins and the like.

What materials do you use for your pieces/
I love to work with different colored beads. I like to experiment with allot of different unusual materials to create classy and wearable pieces.

Any challenges?
Well when i started out i was mostly selling to family and friends who as we all know tend to have the "not pay in time" syndrome or non at all so that was a challenge but i learnt to be forward with them and got over that. Of course the usual hardships of starting any business like lack of market and enough capital were a challenge but it gets better with time.

What are your  inspirations?

My mother who is most hardworking person i know and Condolezza rice. I look up to women of strong character who go beyond the limits society sets for them.

ZEKI jewelery in 5 years ?

 Wow ..I would love for ZEKI to be a household name with stores in all the major cities in the world. Yes i know I'm a big dreamer.

Any wise words from a not so old woman

YES. To anyone who wants to start a business or anything really .do not wait for a lot of money, start with what you have, i started with 2000 Ush(1$) and i have grown from there to earning a basic income from my work. Also be as patient as possible ,even though it takes a while you will eventually make it.

It was a pleasure catching up with this lovely girl. I have known her for a few years and completely supported her at the conception of this idea and I'm definitely a fan of her work. Thank you Ginny and you are definitely One To Watch.

I have so many plans for 2011,some small others really big but all the same plans and i look forward to achieving them. I am starting this year with positivity and a desire to be better in all aspects of my life especially spiritually so help me God. I want to take sometime to write down all my plans( its not too late) and i want to cross them off as the year proceeds.
